Hi everyone, my name is Garry and this is my first year as a Creations For Charity Coordinator in the Greater Toronto Area. Thanks to the immense generousity of creations for charity and the kindness of a local vendor named Zina and her husband, we were able to purchase 300 LEGO sets to give out. Of the total, 200 sets were donated equally to 2 pediatric department at our local hospitals. They will be used by the child life specilists who work in the pediatrics department and will benefit children and families. Child Life Specilists engage children and families in play-based therapies during their hospital stay to help relieve suffering and bring joy in a challenging time.
As one of the Child-Life Specilists told me, " LEGO is an amazing tool for play. I've already used the donation to change a life. I was working with this 9 year old boy who had never played with LEGO before. He was in a lot of pain and discomfort and didn't want to do anything. Once we started building together, everything shifted. He sat up in his bed, had a spark in his eyes. When we finished, he asked me to build more. I knew that LEGO helped make a special connection and really lift his spirts. So thank you for this generous gift that will help so many children and families who will come into our care this year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts." - K.H , Child Life Specilist at Mackenize Health
The remaning 100 sets was given to a social service agency that welcomes newcomer families to Canada. As the supevisor who I contacted told me, "When people come to a new place, everything is uncertian. Giving a LEGO set to a child whose had their whole world turned upside down provides a comfort that cannot be explianed but can be observed. Play helps them ground into their new enviroment and helps them make a positive connection to a new place. Thank you for helping those who struggle feel a little better about their situation." - V.K, Settelment Services Supervisor - JIAS Immigrant Aid Services
Creations For Charity allowed me to do so much good for my community, make connections and help so many others (both staff and clients) feel the immense benefits or how good the world can be with the power of LEGO and play. I would welcome the chance to continue this tradition next year and support Creations for Charity and my community!
