Hope for Henry, D.C. Kids Fighting Cancer

Creations for Charity has been donating to Hope for Henry since 2021. We love being a part of Hope for Henry's journey, in the Capital Tristate area and beyond. (Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.) As a refresher, let me give an overview of how Hope for Henry serves kids fighting cancer, and how Lego helps!

Children battling cancer endure grueling processes, and every medical procedure is a marathon. They're already staring down things that seem incomprehensible, so hope is brought to incremental steps along the way. Hope for Henry feeds each child with as much information and control as one can manage when going through something so arduous. One of the ways they do that is with Henry Bucks!

Henry Bucks are granted to or earned by kids as they go through challenging medical procedures along their path. Need to take a shot? A Henry Buck! Need an MRI? Henry Bucks! Where in the cancer world, the right thing to do is often greeted and followed by pain, the positive reinforcement of earning Henry Bucks goes a long way to empower our kids during a vulnerable and scary time. And your donation of Legos helps!

Once a kid is fashionably wealthy with Henry Bucks, they can spend it at the cart where a variety of toys are there for purchase. And as all of us here know, any Lego on that shelf is clearly the best prize to acquire. So when the light at the end of the cancer tunnel is often so far away, Hope for Henry has some of our Lego to push our youth through the next difficult step in running their marathon, for normalcy, freedom, and life.

Lastly, each Lego set is hand picked by Creations for Charity for the specific goal of serving a child in the hospital. You'll see stand alone models that can occupy side tables, or play features that operate from bedrest.

It's been our joy to join in contributing to Hope for Henry these last years. On a personal note, I've seen the impact they have had on friends as they've watched their little girl beat blood cancer. And in that same sphere, another child is now going though a fight with the same cancer. Recently one of the family members commented to me, "I wish the hospital they're at had a Hope for Henry."

Hope for Henry is now in over 40 hospitals, and each donation you have made has helped. Remember that first Lego set you received, or the favorite or most iconic. These kids are at that impressionable age, and these sets, these reachable goals, brighten their dark path, and Lego will live with them through their battle.

Thank you all.

Sincerely,

Sean Mayo
